UNLAWFUL USE OF MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION § 13- 1803
If you drive someone else’s car without their permission, and you don’t intend to permanently deprive that person of their car, you can be found guilty of a Class 5 Felony.
This is commonly known as “Joyriding”. Even if you are a passenger in a car that you know or should have known (for example, if the column is cracked) was being driven by someone who was in “unlawful possession” – you too have committed a felony.
